URI Eagle Introduces The World’s Finest Ceramic Blade Santoku Knife for 2006

February 16, 2006 -- Redondo Beach, California – URI Eagle Ceramic Knives introduced the world’s finest ceramic blade Santoku knife as part of their 2006 product line.

Universal Relations introduces their latest product – it is the result the integration of the 3 hottest trends in modern cutlery…  the model 888 is a ceramic blade Santoku knife with a feature unheard of in ceramic knives before now – oval grooves cut into the blade that are designed to keep sliced food from clinging to the blade!

The URI Eagle Ceramic Knives model 888 is a revolution in modern cutlery and capitalizes on the following three hot trends:

  • Ceramic blade
    • Remains sharper longer than any metal blade would
      • Stays sharp for up to 5 years of daily use
    • More hygienic than metal blades
      • Chemically inert
    • Easily rinses clean under running water
      • Naturally non-stick surface
    • Will not turn food brown like metal blades
      • Does not deposit metal ions into your foods
  • The Asian Santoku knife design
    • The most popular and sought after type of knife in the gourmet product marketplace today
  • The oval grooves in the flat of the blade prevents sliced food from clinging to the blade
    • This feature only recently added to metal knife blades had been considered impossible to duplicate with ceramic blades… that is, until now.

The announcement was made today by Grace Li, General Manager for North America Sales and Marketing.  According to Ms. Li, the new knives will be formally launched in conjunction with the Gourmet Products Show to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada between May 9 and May 11, 2006.

Those attending the 2006 Gourmet Products Show can see all of the exciting new products, at the URI Eagle Booth # 1660.

URI Eagle Ceramic Blade Peeler Products Announcement

May 9, 2005 -- Redondo Beach, California -- Universal Relations Incorporated (URI) introduced two new models of Ceramic Blade Peelers to augment their existing line of 15 models of Eagle Ceramic Blade Knives.  Both of the new peelers have ceramic blades made of Zirconium Oxide which means they will always remain sharp and never dull or rust as metal blades often do.  In addition to the advantages inherent in their ceramic blades each peeler model offers a unique combination of ergonomic design improvements.

Design goals included increasing usability, reducing fatigue, attractive modern styling, and production efficiencies allowing for a lower price than competing ceramic blade products.  The results from months of R&D were two models of ceramic blade peelers; each peeler model, having the following unique attributes:

Model 1002:  New Wide-Handle Ceramic Blade Peeler --This new wide-handle peeler is available in 3 colors (red, blue, yellow).  The blade is set perpendicular to the handle to compete with other new style peelers but the model 1002 Peeler's wider handle design is superior to either the "Y" or "Harp" handles on the competition's products.  The MSRP for the Model 1002 New Wide-Handle Ceramic Blade Peeler will be under $10 and the introductory price is $8.88.

Model P2001:  Inline Handle Ceramic Blade Peeler -- This is an updated version of our original ceramic blade peeler.  This model features the inline blade configuration preferred in the U.S. marketplace.  New for 2005 is the addition of finger ridges along the front of the crystal-clear handle.  The ridges combined with the gently rounded shape make the handle easier to grip and that increases control while lessening fatigue.  The MSRP for the Model P2001 Inline Handle Ceramic Blade Peeler will be under $12 and the introductory price is $10.88.

URI Eagle Ceramic Knives is accepting advanced orders from dealers, distributors, and retailers to plan production for the rest of 2005.  The official product launch for all new products in 2005 will be run concurrently with the Gourmet Products Show held in New York City this October.  URI will support the 2005 product introductions with increased marketing efforts to include mass-market advertising in support the retail sales by our partners during the busy Fall/Winter holiday sales period.

Security Enhanced Ceramic Knives Result in Improved Detection by Security Scanner Devices

Company Responds to Public Safety Concerns

April 19, 2005 -- Redondo Beach, California -- Universal Relations Incorporated (URI) announced today the results of testing showing vastly improved detection of their ceramic kitchen knives by security scanners used in airports and public buildings.  Photographic results released today clearly show how detection of its URI Eagle Ceramic Knives has improved due to recent product “security enhancements.”  The security enhancement tests were conducted with the assistance of the leading manufacturer of security scanning devices used at airports and public buildings.

URI supplied "security enhanced" modified ceramic knife products for testing by the leader of the security scanning device industry.  The tests were conducted with a range of security scanning equipment.  The latest scanners representing the state of the art technology of security devices commonly used to screen items at the entrance to airports and public buildings had no problem detecting the knives.  All of the imaging security scanners were now capable of producing clear images of the security enhanced Ceramic Zirconia blades.  The effort to produce "security enhanced" ceramic blades has resulted in the reliable detection of the URI Eagle Ceramic Knives by all three currently deployed models of security scanners used in the testing.

Ceramic knife blades contain no metal and therefore pose a unique threat for security scanner equipment and their operators to detect. Ceramic blade materials are 2nd in hardness only to diamond. The blade hardness allows these knives to remain nearly razor sharp for years of normal use and this has made them very popular with those who do lots of cooking at home.

URI Product Manager, Justin Johnson, explains the goal, “URI Eagle Ceramic Knives is determined to minimize the potential risk to public safety posed by any URI product.” Johnson says his concept was simple enough, "we sought to improve public safety through a variety invisible modifications thus allowing security scanning devices to more easily detect any of our ceramic blade knives.”

The purpose of the analysis and testing was to validate effectiveness of the design modifications to URI Eagle brand ceramic knives. The testing has improved the ability to detect any ceramic knife. URI’s Mr. Johnson concludes by saying, “The Company I work for does not need a profit motive to do what it can to protect the safety of the public. We will not seek patents for any public safety modifications under development and invite our competitors to help make public safety an industry-wide effort.”

Local news media will be provided with summary test results and other interested parties may be invited to witness and report to their viewers first-hand, as appropriate under TSA, FBI, and other applicable guidelines. The information shall provide the press and other news media with an appropriate assessment in response their recent questions on improving the ability of security scanning devices to detect and alert operators to potential threats including those posed by ceramic knives.

Press Releases for 2004

URI Eagle Ceramic Knives to cease its direct to consumer sales channel in August 2004

July 16, 2004 – Redondo Beach, California -- Universal Relations, Inc will cease all direct to consumer sales efforts at the end of July 2004. Recent deals with major partners such as Target Corporation in the U.S. and Housewares Distribution in Canada have convinced the company that now is the time to exit the direct to consumer sales channel.

As part of its business plan URI had prepared an exit strategy to sell off the direct sales assets and allow it to focus on long-term relationships with established partners with the ability to market our unique products to their immense customer base.  The direct sales channel was critical to funding our growth. The time spent marketing products directly helped them to understand the market and fine-tune their ceramic knife products.

It took a certain level of success to reach the critical mass required to attract a partner like Target Corporation. Robust growth in the number of new gourmet specialty and cutlery dealers will be protected through the introduction of new high-end products. Major distribution partners will be able to cherry pick specific models to open new markets for URI Eagle Ceramic products with incredibly low prices due to the economies of scale associated with the increased volume of products being produced and sold. And, with the addition of a major retailer sales channel the direct sales channel is clearly best left to our partners.  Our focus must be fixed upon making our partners successful with their customers. Our dealers, distributors, and retailers are partners and URI chooses not to compete with partners.

The details of URI’s exit from direct sales to consumers have been driven by the desire to maximize the benefit to all of the parties concerned.  It is nice to be able to provide opportunities to our first dealers to acquire assets once associated with the direct sales efforts. As North America President, Grace Li puts it, “My Company owes so much to our charter dealers. Why not share with them some of the revenue generating vehicles as we focus on their success?  I look forward to serving our partners and their customers.”

URI Eagle Ceramic Knives Announces Deal with Major Retailer Target

July 15, 2004 – Redondo Beach, California -- Universal Relations, Inc. has reached a deal with Target Corporation who will begin selling a full line of URI Eagle Ceramic Knives in August 2004.

Target Corporation has selected URI Eagle Ceramic Knives to become the first ceramic knife brand ever to be marketed by any major retailer.   “We are very excited to have been selected as the first supplier of ceramic knives to this major national retailer” is how URI North America President, Grace Li, puts it. “ The fact that it is Target Corporation who will carry our ceramic knives is not too surprising to us.” Grace continues, “Two years ago we first realized what a good fit our unique and high quality products would be for a savvy major retailer like Target.”

“We knew if our price point could be kept down by being very frugal in marketing our new knives that we could attract the attention of a partner capable of bringing us large numbers of customers searching for a real bargain on a trendy gourmet product line that will provide years of use in the kitchen”, says URI’s Grace Li.

Ceramic blade knives stay sharp for years of normal use because they are made from Zirconium, which is second in hardness only to diamond, and that means they can never lose their cutting edge to become dull like steel knives do.  Ceramic knives also do not react with foods like metal knives do.  Ceramic knives do not turn fruits and vegetables brown like metal knives.  Ceramic knives will never leave foul tasting or smelling deposits in your food like metal knives.  Ceramic knives have a naturally non-stick surface and are made of a chemically inert ceramic material so they rinse clean and will never rust or become stained.

Gourmet retailers, cutlery shops, and other specialty stores have sold small numbers of the very expensive knives offered by our competition.  For a number of years the design, materials, and quality of earliest ceramic knives earned them a less than perfect reputation.

“One Japanese company produces most of the ceramic blades sold in the U.S.A. today” says Justin Johnson of URI.  And, then he offers this assessment, “This dominant competitor has enjoyed a high-end niche market by selling ceramic knives for as much a $300 a piece.  Our only choice was to find our way to a reach a larger market for our products because there are only a few customers willing to pay the competition’s $200 to $300 price per knife.”

According to Ms. Li, “Target’s customers will be able to own a URI Eagle brand ceramic knife that offers the same benefits that other consumers have been paying from 2 to 4 times as much for, until now.”

URI Eagle Knives will support Target Corporation customers with a 5-year warranty that includes an industry standard free sharpening and minor damage repair service.

Ceramic Knife Public Safety Concerns Drives Effort to Improve Detection

July 13, 2004 -- Redondo Beach, California -- Universal Relations Incorporated (URI) announced today the start of testing of its Eagle brand ceramic knives, conducted with the assistance of the leading manufacturer of security scanning devices, to improve the detection of their ceramic kitchen knives.

URI will be supplying current and modified products for testing to the leader of the security scanning device industry.  The tests will be conducted with equipment that represent the state of the art technology across a broad array of security devices commonly used to screen items at the entrance to airports and public buildings.

Ceramic knife blades contain no metal and therefore pose a unique threat for security scanner equipment and their operators to detect. Ceramic blade materials are 2nd in hardness only to diamond.
